I need to buy a submersible water pump for a pondless waterfall.
How large of a pump should I buy?
There is 18 to 20 ft of head pressure and I want to pump about 1200 gallons per hour.

These sites also sell weir boxes that help provide a smooth flow of water at the start of the water fall and are rated for various flow rates. For 20 gallons per minute and 20 ft head you need a pump of 0.101 hp=75.3 watt.

If this is for a home water feature project check your local building supply and get the biggest pond pump you can afford, otherwise you will be disappointed with the flow. It takes a lot more than you think to look good.
