Get a soil test kit. Usually can get this from your local extensions office. It'll tell you if you need to add any amendments, like lime or potash. Then if you want grass, go to the nearest Home & Garden store and buy bulk grass seed. It's generally cheaper there than a nursery. This would be an opportune time to plant some flower beds too. But use landscape cloth as the grass and weeds will be back.

First tell your hubby to read the instructions prior to doing anything in the yard. Every garden type chemical has a phone # on it for those kind of people that just arnt sure. Gardening and landscaping are at the top of the easy list in any culture. Best advise Turn off TV and start reading. Something tells me you guys have a bigger than average TV. and an x box or alike.

well girlfriend, im an landscaper. first plow your back yard, throw anytype of grass seed on the plowed area, then water very lightly, and set your sprinkler system for late evenings while its spring...

Hey Moonsocket,

The herbacides that are used to kill grass for residential use are usually the type that get on the green leaves, and cause the plant to choke out. Once the herbacide hits the dirt, it becomes ineffective.

So, you should be able to scratch the surface of your dirt, spread some lawn seed (the type depends on your location and preference). Rake it in again, to slightly cover it, then water each day, for about 14 to 21 days. That should produce a new lawn.

Best of luck. If you name the herbacide that he used, it could be checked to see if what I said is true.

Did it completerly die? I would get some lawn food and feed and water it, grass is very Hard to kill.
